Thundercats 15cm Cheetara figure

This is the last of the 6inch figures that were made available in Ireland. A friend found it in a random shop, bought it and gave it to me as a birthday gift, which was pretty awesome of him. It's been awhile since I actually posted up a review, so I have decided to start finishing off some old reviews that I started many years ago. Cheetara is the dependable, loyal friend of the Thundercats group and in this installment of the franchise is also Lion-o's trainer, since Jaga is killed off in the beginning of the show.

This figure is a great redesign of the classic 80’s female character. She is much younger though then the 80’s version of the character. This was done by the artists of the show to maybe appeal to a younger audience base. They did the same with all of the characters such as Lion-o, which I also obtained and have reviewed previously. I really like the redesigns. Particularly Cheetara’s because of the muted colours as opposed to the orange and yellow vibrate tones of the 80’s. It uses lots of brown and caramel shades with gold used to add extra detail to different parts of her costume. Her face colouring is quite simple, using light orange to emphasize the eyes and lips.

Like all the other Thundercat figures, she has 16 points of articulation. It’s a pretty good figure that has no loose joints, which sometimes can cause posing problems. The two main problems that I came across with the figure though is her head isn't verily articulated. This is because of her large hair piece. It is a single piece and although beautifully molded can cause posing issues. She also has the other problem that all the figures from this line have. You can see all of her pins and they made it so noticeable that they coloured her arm joints in a dark brown so they stand out even more. While this would normally be a huge issue it has grown on me and I have found that it kinda works well on this figure but again it is not great and should have been avoided.

These figures were great fun to collect and I would have loved to have collected them all, sadly though they were short lived because the show got cancelled before any more could be released over here. I believe if they had concentrated on just one or two toy lines and not tried to put out lots of figures out all at the same time and saturated the market the figures would have done better. It’s a really big shame that both the toy line and the animated TV show was cancelled as I would have loved to have seen more of both the show and the toy line.

Marvel Select "Venom"

It has been awhile since I have been inspired by a figure to write a review but at the moment I am. Just back from a fun shopping trip were I bought some comics and then got myself a new figure. This figure is the Marvel Select “Venom”. Venom is the first of the 7” scale figure that I have purchased and am I happy about that, this will definitely not be the last purchase of these.

These are not cheap purchases at all but you get what you pay for. In the box you get multiple pieces for customizing the figure to your liking. You get three variant heads to choose from; one is his classic teeth showing smiling venom, second one is the mouth open with his tongue extended and the last one is the half Eddie Brock head with the symbiote wrapping around him with the giant tongue hanging out of him. You also get two arm pieces that can connect to his forearms to give extra small arms to large muscular arms. You also get two closed fist to replace the claw hands. And the last piece that is the real impressive part of the figure is the back pack which clips on to his back and adds extra arms plus lots of smaller heads growing out of his back you are able to make them face in different directions. This backpack piece also connects without any pegs so there are no holes on his back or anything.

The figure has a great paint job on it as well, there is only one minor scuff on the figure were some white got on it were it shouldn't have been painted on. It is mainly been painted in black, white and some shading done with a blue colour. So you can have him looking like the different ways he has looked through his comic career, my personal favorite version is from when Todd McFarlane in The Amazing Spider-Man #316.

He has many points of articulation for some great posing. All the joints in the figure are tight enough that they stay in place when you position the figure. The only problematic parts I found was that some of the heads can be a little loose when you change them on the peg but I don’t know if that was from me not pushing hard enough on the peg. The little extra arms that connect onto his forearm, don’t clip on to tightly but this isn't a terrible thing cause these are more for show cause you could not never really hold onto anything with them.

If you are a Venom fan or a Marvel Select one, I would highly recommend you get this figure I know you can also get a special edition version only at Disney shops, this is based on the Flash Thompson Agent Venom. I want copy of this figure but at the moment he is hard to come by, hopefully this will change in the future. 

Thundercats 15cm Panthro figure

For my latest post I bring you the last of the Thundercats that I bought in the last while. The last one was Panthro, the loyal soldier to the king. Out of all the three figures he is the one who they have changed the most from the original figure. This version of the character is a lot broader and stockier build the old version that was much taller character. When it comes to this character, he gets the least amount of extra weapons and no extra hand parts. With Panthro you only get an open pair of nun chucks for him to hold in his hands, you also get a second nun chuck that is tied up that can be connected to his back of his belt. He is the only one that does not include any extra hands; this causes a lot of problem because it is very tight to get his weapon into hands. They kept some of the look character by keeping the spikes on the character but they also changed by adding even more spikes to the character, they are not just on his straps. He has the spikes on his wrists and shin guards. So he looks even more vicious then the older version.

Panthro comes with lots of articulation much like the other range of figures. He comes with over 20 points of articulation much like the other figures in this line. Out of the three figures, I found Panthro the loosest in places and also because of the size of his torso, he is a lot tougher to get to stand up and pose.  His hands have no articulation at all so you only have him with closed fists. This is very disappointing after getting the other figures were you get lots of extras that you could do lots of poses for the character. The colour scheme of the character is very much like the old version some minor changes but its more about the build of the Panthro that is different. They kept different grey tones and dark blue /grey tones.

At the moment, this will be my last Thundercat review unless I get a chance to order the set that came out only in the states. This is the biggest failing that this series had; they brought out to many versions of the character, ranging from different sizes and quality. They should have pick only one version or at least stick to two and then go from there after they saw how popular the line was then they could have created more. But sadly the toy line and the show have both been cancelled. I may get some of the smaller scale version of the other characters and if I do get more I will do more reviews on these but next I will be looking at some Marvel Universe figures.

Thundercats 15cm Mumm-Ra figure

Sorry it has been so long that I have got any new reviews upon the blog, but just had some personal issues that affected my ability to getnew write ups. My plan is to get more done over next couple months, I have some figures sitting around that I never reviewed and also some recently bought toys that I will try my hardest to put up a new one at least twice a month. So let's get to the point of this latest article.

This is my review of the Thundercats 2011 Mumm-Ra figure.This is based on the updated design from the recently cancelled series. They have kept some of the key features of the character, such as the grey colour scheme, the mummy wrapping flowing of them and the snakes on his chest and eventhe cape design coming off his helmet. Like the Lion-o figure he comes with many accessories. With this version of the character, before the Cats got the Sword of Omens, Mumm-ra had part of the sword himself. This is shown by his accessories such as the double ended sword of omens but also he has a smaller version of this sword and also the double ended sword can be taken apart to become a shorter sword. He also comes with one of the strangest shields as well, it has was can only be called tentacles that some how help defend him. He also much like Lion-o he comes with extra hands; these are an open hand and close variety for holding weapons.  Healso comes with a tattered cape that you have to connect to the helmet, this is a pain, and it’s very frustrating to put this under the cape because the instructions are not very clear. You need to remove the helmet and then connect the cape to the back of the figure but this is very loose and will pop off at the slightest knock.

The articulation of this figure is very alike the Lion-ofigure. It has 16 points of movement so you can you do all sorts of possibility. But the articulation also has some problems; the tunic that he is wearing hampers some of the movement of the legs so you can’t move the legs out that far.  The other problems that occur with the figure is the hands are a pain to stick the weapons to them, it’s alot easier to stick the sword into the hand separately and put them together inhis hand. The shield is also entirely to loose and it doesn’t stay on the arm.The paint job is actually pretty good with this figure. It perfectly captures the look and feel of the updated series. The grey looks smooth and also shaded too. I don’t have any real problems with the look of this figure. The only thing I wish that this character is missing and I think it was going to have them but they changed their mind or wanted to cut the cost of the figure.

If you have any of the others Thundercats but have not picked this up, I would recommend that you get this figure so that you have avillain for Lion-o to fight. It’s a fun figure with some slight problem  but all together a good figure.

Batman: The Animated Series "Bruce Wayne"(with Snap-on Batman Armour)

This figure I have fond memories of finding him in Roches Store in The Square Tallaght. I remember it well, cause the packaging was damaged and a piece of his armour was missing so it was discounted. The toys based on the Batman animated series are some of my favourite figures that I got as a kid growing up. This one came with a Bruce Wayne in his civilian clothes. It also has the pieces to put over him that make up his armour, with mine these include his cape with the cowl connected to this, chest and body piece, two arm covers and only one leg piece. You also got a bat shaped gun with him. Each of these parts of the armour clips on over the Bruce Wayne figure really well without showing too much underneath it.

The downside of these figures is that they come with very limited articulation. The arms and legs move up and down. The head moves from left to right but this is harder to move when you have the cape and cowl on. But even with this limited articulation, they are still some of my favourite figures to play with when I was growing up.

The figure looks like the Bruce Timm version of Bruce Wayne, he's got the classic chiseled chin and dark hair. His clothes that he is wearing as a civilian are really basic, it looks like a red jump suit with no details. It doesn't look anything like what he wore in the show but this doesn't really affect the playability of it. If you are a Batman fan or you liked the Batman: The Animated Series this should be the in your collection, just for the fun of being able to have Bruce Wayne and then to put on your bat armour when its time to fight crime in Gotham.

Thundercats 15cm Lion-o figure

The new version of Liono from the Thundercats 2011 series is a very different design from the original one. There are some parts of the design that they kept but they gave him a much more colourful and elaborate scheme. When you open your box of the figure, you see that you get lots of extra parts. You get the Sword of Omens in its large version and its smaller dagger version. You also get a closed claw shield and open claw for when he is wearing it. The Sword of Omens fits inside either version of the claw while in dagger form. You are also able to take off either the right or left hand. This is where one of my problems comes up because these are very tight and I feel its going to break any time I try pull it off. They probably will not break but they are very tough to remove and even harder to get back on because of the bending nature of the wrist.

Liono has lots of articulation, you can get some great poses with him. The only problem that I have with this aspect of this figure is because of the way the shoulder pads are designed and placed on him. Its makes it a lot harder to make him posed doing the "eye of omens" from the show. The paint job on this figure is great in most places but I found it lacking in other aspects. All the colours on the body armour look great, there are paint problems on the version I have. The only problem that I see and this is just my opinion is that I find the paint work on his face lacking. I think it is not really detailed enough and is very plain looking.

I would highly recommend if you are a fan of the Thundercats to pick it up. I got this from my local Smyths toy store were they were doing a buy one get one free on the figures, along with the classic figure too. I have just picked up two more from this series. So you can look forward to a review of both the Mumm-Ra and Panthro toys.
